POSTPONEMENT OF THE WORLD ASSEMBLY AND CONFERENCE

Dear colleagues,

After a long and careful evaluation of all the parameters regarding global outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 and in consideration of our unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our members and colleagues, the OMEP Executive Committee (EXCO) has decided to postpone the 74th World Assembly and Conference that was due to be held in Athens from 12 to 16 July, 2021.

The uncertain course of the pandemic, the various restrictions set by health authorities and local governments but above all the health and safety of all delegates, sponsors and staff were the main reasons behind this decision, which aims to give clear notice to participants and remove any doubt and speculation from the Congress’ organization.

We are pleased to announce that we have secured new dates to hold the 74th World Assembly and Conference, which will now take place from 11 to 15 July 2022. The Congress venues are the same as the 2021 scheduled Conference.

The postponement will not affect the scientific programme of the Conference, while the extensive planning and preparations for the 74th World Assembly and Conference are completely transferable to the new dates, by which time we anticipate that the COVID-19 pandemic will be a distant past and that we can all meet together with safety. In this respect all current registrations for OMEP 2021 Congress will be rolled over automatically to apply to 2022, while accepted abstracts will remain valid for next year and will be presented during the respective sessions on the new dates.

However and should an author / abstract presenter wish to withdraw his/her abstract, he / she is kindly requested to notify the Congress Secretariat accordingly by sending an email to [email protected], indicating the reference number of the abstract, he/she wants to withdraw. Moreover, new abstracts submissions will be possible. In this respect OMEP Greece and the official PCO, responsible for the organization of the Conference, AFEA SA, will re-activate the abstract submission portal within a period of six months.

As already mentioned, all current registrations for OMEP 2021 Congress will be rolled over automatically to apply to 2022. Those already registered do not need to do anything to secure their attendance for next year. In addition, registrations for the OMEP 2021 are transferrable and substitution of delegates in the same registration category will be accepted at any time. We encourage those who are currently registered but unable to attend in 2022 to transfer their registration to a colleague or friend. The Online Registration Form will be re-activated in January 2022 for new registration submissions.

Should you wish to stay tuned and informed about all issues related to the Conference, please submit your interest by joining the Congress newsletter at https://www.omep2022.org/, which will be active in a month, in order that you receive our newsletters with the most updated information on the Congress organization or visit https://worldomep.org/ and OMEP’s social networks.

For any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the Congress Secretariat at [email protected].

We sincerely hope that the entire OMEP community is able to remain healthy and we look forward to seeing you all in Athens next year for a record-breaking and amazing OMEP World Assembly and Conference in Athens.

On behalf of the OMEP Executive Committee:
Mercedes Mayol Lassalle World President

Welcome

Dear colleagues,

The OMEP National Committee of Greece invites you to the 74th World Assembly and OMEP International Conference which will be held in Athens, the capital of Greece, a country where the ancient philosopher Plato highlighted the importance of Early Childhood Education. Education in early childhood and elementary school is fundamental for every individual, because it promotes holistic child’s development, offers opportunities for exploration and learning, and cultivates critical thinking and creativity. At the same time, Pre-school Education plays an important role in children’s school readiness and success, in order for them to become future active citizens. Although Pre-school Education as a concept, has a long history, there are still many issues to be presented and discussed, such as the appropriate children’s entrance age to Pre-school Education, the quality of Early Childhood Education and the question of the need to establish Pre-school Education as mandatory or not. In addition, it is necessary to discuss issues like the content of curricula, inclusion and equality in Early Childhood Education, children’s educational rights and teachers’ professional skills and development.

The theme for the OMEP International Conference in July 2022, is based on the need to consider and explore contemporary issues and dilemmas for Pre-school Education in the 21st century. There are four main key-themes and many subthemes. Our wish is that any member of OMEP, professor, teacher, counsellor or other professional interested in Early Childhood Education would have the opportunity to participate in individual presentations, posters and symposiums at the Conference.

You are most welcome in Athens!
